Joining Facebook – A Great Way to Increase Website Traffic

Most companies today come with an online presence. Having dedicated web sites is very much necessary to tap the growing market segment that makes transactions online. However, for people to buy from a particular website, they have to know about its existence. And for that, the companies need to have effective Internet marketing policies and search engine optimization techniques in place to drive targeted audience to their web sites. The idea is to convert a growing percentage of the visitors to various e-commerce sites into customers. However, sometimes the tried and tested means of Internet marketing and web site design might not be enough. This is the time when you would want to think “out of the box.” One such “different” approach to ensure that there is more “relevant” traffic to your website is the use of social networking sites such as Facebook.

For the people who do not know, Facebook is a social networking site through which a person can keep in touch with friends, acquaintances, and family members. He can also use this forum to meet new people.

An individual could use this medium to promote his business. After all, it is common knowledge that people like to do business with others they know. And if the individual can make himself known to other members of Facebook, he can also sell his products and ideas to them.

An individual could be a part of a Facebook group with others who are interested in certain areas that are related to his business or e-commerce initiative. These are the people who are most likely to be interested in what is offered by the company in question. How can one search for such a group? All that a person would need to do is think of a topic that people in the market for his products or services would be interested in. He can then search for groups related to the same. Being a part of such a group is always beneficial, as the members can interact with one another and get to know about their businesses and e-commerce initiatives. There would be many people in the group with an interest for what a particular company offers.

Individuals and business owners can also create some events to draw in the interested people to their Facebook accounts and ultimately to their web sites. An event could be anything from a product launch to organizing a special activity that a target market would be interested in. These events are perfect to generate publicity for the online businesses and increase web site traffic.

So, what does Facebook do? It acts as a forum for people to meet online. This forum can also be used to communicate with other individuals in any target market. The best way to go about it is to show genuine interest in other people. This way, they would see you as a person having some interesting traits and qualities and not as someone who is out to get his next prospective client. When you are genuine, they would also reciprocate by showing interest in you as well as in your business.

Learning to Use Social Networking Sites for Business

Social networking sites where originally intended to be merely online communities where people can gather and share interests and opinions. Due to the growing popularity of many social networks they soon caught the eye of the internet marketing community. A social platform with a large membership base represented fertile grounds for marketing goods and services.

Now many entrepreneurs have flooded these social sites for the purpose of marketing online.  The splash they have made however has often times been awkward and unwelcome by many site members. The need to keep in mind that these online communities are really intended for socializing is crucial. There is a way to effectively conduct your business in a way that is less awkward for you and more welcomed by site members.

Here are 3 points you’ll need to keep in mind when approaching any social platform for the purpose of marketing online:

You Can’t Please Everybody

If you’re use to hiding behind copywriting then the interacting can be a bit of a shock. Guess what, that is why they call it ‘social’ marketing. Remember this is how you interrelate with people offline … has it been that long?

Expect a healthy amount of ‘give and take’ in and amongst site members. This interaction should also include you and don’t expect that everybody will agree with your views or opinions. What makes social marketing so effective is the immediate feedback you can expect and this likely will be directed right at you. Take nothing personal and learn to benefit from any criticism you may receive.

Engage in Discussions

When I mention engaging in conversations I don’t mean listening in on them. Make yourself known and offer input where you feel you can contribute in a positive manner. If the subject is popular yet you’re not that familiar with it then listen up and learn.

Don’t be afraid to ask a question being this is a great way to meet and bond with others. The person you ask questions of today may be your customer or even mentor tomorrow!

Don’t Overextend Yourself

As you become more comfortable interacting on various social networks you may be tempted to join some others and you should. However do keep in mind that to get the most out of any one site will take some time and effort on your part since you need to be building relationships with the other members. Be reasonable with the number of sites you choose to become active at so that you don’t overextend yourself thereby diminishing your own efforts.

To conduct business on any of the social networking sites you first need to gain the acceptance of other members. Participating in discussions and making positive contributions with your comments or opinions is a key first step. Social sites are based upon the members building relationships.  If your initial focus is business any future marketing efforts likely will be ineffective. So make yourself comfortable, make some friends, and then use this base to grow your business into the future.

Best Twittering Tips On How To Twitter Using Twitter Tools

A glance on what is Twitter. Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co-workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?

This network is one of many ways for you to meet yourself online. Twitter asks you things like “What are you doing?” which gets us thinking about what I’m actually doing right now. Typically, we don’t realize what we’re doing or thinking until we’re asked, at which point we’re compelled to think about it, even if the asker was in fact a social networking site.

In March 2009, a Nielsen.com blog ranked Twitter as the fastest-growing site in the Member Communities category for February 2009. Twitter had a monthly growth of 1382%, Zimbio of 240%, followed by Facebook with an increase of 228%.

Because of such a high popularity that Twitter has created, people are constantly looking for a way on how to twitter, some twitter tips, who is the best twitter which in this case twitter refers to a Twitter user. Some programmers even created software that is refer to as twitter tools. Unofficially, twitter is a word now, where twittering is known as the verbs.

Now, I’m going to talk about the misuse of Twitter, the misuse of twitter tools to be exact. There is some software that let you automate your tweet. Well, a lot of people use this kind of software to pretend friendly which is actually good but they are using it the wrong way or maybe the worst way.

What I’m talking about is they are abusing twitter using the tools; all they are twittering about is sales, sales, and sales. Some even use automated Direct Messages to instantly message you when you follow them. Now let me show you how to not twitter your account to dead with messages will look like this:

1. Hello there, thanks for the follow. Want to know how to earn $576K within a year online? Check this out. (They will put a link that leads to their capture page or some even worse to their affiliate page.)

2. Hi there, do you want to make money online? This is the best marketing system ever. Don’t believe it, just see it. (Another stupid looking link)

Now I was using that kind of way to market my business too which is absolutely wrong, and I changed. Some of you may be doing that kind of way too, but you’re reading this article which makes you better because you found a way to change and you want to change. Just take a look at the twitter tips I provided using twitter tools to automate your message and tweet but better:

1. Hello there my friend. Many thanks for the follow, are you on facebook? Let’s connect there too. (Then put a link to your facebook)

2. Hi there buddy, great knowing you. It’s so great that I just met a wonderful new friend today. You, let’s talk again.

There it is, it’s actually quite simple and that’s what you want, simple and friendly to the point that they won’t be afraid to talk to you. Now you have learned how to twitter well and survive in the stupid world outside that is full of useless tips and maybe hazardous to your health as a twitter. Now let’s do some twittering.

The next lesson on how to twitter well will be out tomorrow, I’ll be writing and make videos once a day so stay tune. You can be the first to reach my lessons, watch the video version, and know more about me directly by subscribing to my blog or visiting it, http://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/mailverify?uri=TantawiSBlog&loc=en_US

10 things to remember when grabbing a Facebook Username

Here are 10 things you need to know:

  1. Be quick! Usernames on Facebook are being given out on a first-come, first-served basis.
  2. It’s not possible to use a ‘generic word’ as your username. So don t try use terms like “newspapers “or car, that wouldn’t work
  3. Be sure to choose the right username as once you pick a name, it’s yours for life.
  4. Using your real name is not mandatory. The use of real names is advised by Facebook, but you aren’t limited in that regard.
  5. If you created your Facebook account after 3pm on June 9th, you won’t be able to get a username yet.
  6. The restrictions are even greater for Facebook Pages (public profiles). Facebook is only letting users who had accounts prior to 3pm on June 9 register for usernames this week. The social network says it’s a precaution to help prevent people from generating accounts just for ‘name squatting’ purposes. If you registered your Facebook account after that time, you’ll have to wait till June 28 at 12:01am to get your new name.
  7. 5 characters is the minimum number of of characters you can use. Only letters, numbers, also a full stop could be contained in a username. Don’t waste your time using special characters e.g $#@%
  8. Your current privacy settings will be applied to your new URL. Depending on your privacy settings, though, people may not be able to see much there. Whatever settings you currently have on your account will apply, so if your profile is set to be private, it’ll remain private – even on the new address.
  9. Trademarks will be protected. Facebook says it’ll work to protect intellectual property & trademark rights. You will be able report rights violations.

10. Your Facebook username might be used for more things in the future. Even if no information has been revealed yet about that, whatever name you pick is likely appear in more place in the future

Talking about Facebook, our free website builder now to allow visitors to become a member of your site using their Facebook login credentials, therefore making it easier for users to register as they won’t have to create another username and password. Make a free website connected to Facebook takes only 5 minutes.

Make Money Online with Social Media and Social Networking Websites

Making money online with social media and social networking is often looked at with mysticism, confusion, doubt, and misguidance. We will go over the numerous principles to capitalizing on these powerful mediums and why so many other techniques often fail. First we must understand what social media and networking sites are, and what they are not.

According to Wikipedia social media is “activities that integrate technology, telecommunications and social interaction”; social networking is very similar stating “facilitates communication between a group of individuals or organizations….shared values.” The most obvious word the two share is social; the goal of these websites is to bring people together in a relevant, organized fashion, to better transfer their knowledge and passions. They are not identical but the principles are the same: people sharing knowledge, organization, shared interests. We will use the term social media to represent both fields.

Chances are you have read somewhere to focus on niche marketing. While being in a niche is a solid business plan, understand that people are people, and like people, we all are more alike than dissimilar. Do not miss out on the opportunity to reach new audiences for fear of being different; people have broad interests, personalities, and “light bulbs” that go off when they see something alien to them. If you, like many marketers focus only on niches you will pigeon hole your own growth. Here is an example. I co-run GameFriends.com, a social network for all things video game related. The gamers in the community vary from hardcore, to casual, and every degree in between. Now, if we strictly marketed to known gamers we would have a finite pool (albeit enormous) but we would be missing out on people that did NOT actively know they wanted to play games until the opportunity arose. The idea works the same way as “impulse buying”. Native Americans did not know Columbus came by boats because they did not “see” the boats; it wasn’t in their realm of consciousness. It was only after they were exposed to them did they “see them”. Marketing works the same way; let your product/service enter the minds of the masses and you will gain new audiences.

Now making money online is not all about you (scary isn’t it?). You are in a relationship with the internet, the social media site you are utilizing, and the people within it. How would you like it if your girlfriend made you mow the lawn, cook her dinner and satisfy her needs and told you good night? You would feel used at the very least, and ready to explode (with anger ha). Now on the other hand if she cooked you dinner while you mowed the lawn and gave you a back massage you would both feel pretty good. Mutual benefit is the only way true relationships work. Never make the mistake of trying to get something out of someone for nothing. As Earl nightingale has taught us mutual benefit is the only real way for prosperity. When approaching a social medium, whether a forum, a bookmarking oriented site such as digg or reddit, or a large network such facebook, myspace or GameFriends you must enter with the mindset of contributing positively to the community. In fact, making money online is the last step to becoming successful. You will only make money online once you have become successful and contributing to others success.

Social media is not a place to drop as many links and spam as many people as possible. If you treat it as such you will be wasting your time. Behind social media are real life people like yourself. Just think how you would want to be treated. Keep in mind however this does not mean you can personally connect with each person. I love interacting with people but it is just not possible on a mass scale depending on your niche or product. To counteract this you must be as open and honest about your intentions and what you hope to bring to the community. An example of positively contributing to Digg would be to compile a list of the best of X, and truly taking your time to make it relevant to your product/service, or creating a Facebook group to raise awareness of your business with quality content. Yahoo Answers and GameFriends Ask a Gamer are great examples of researching and sharing knowledge and being rewarded with a link back to your website, as well as the quality article directories that distribute this.

Action. There are thousands of social media websites. To start you should sign up to about 5 of them and contribute your knowledge and add friends. If you contribute to each social medium (daily progress) you will have a great standing within the community in just 30 days. The more active you are the quicker the process becomes. Then after this time you will be able to let your friends know and others within the community about your shiny new red model cars for sale, or whatever you are selling. This isn’t a guarantee of success, but if you sign up and tell everyone about your shiny new red model cars before some foreplay you will be kicked out of the metaphorical bed, aka social medium. If you are in the game industry you can read a more thorough article titled how to make money online with gamefriends (coming soon). Remember to utilize niche mediums but not to limit yourself, contribute your knowledge in a relevant way to expose your product, make friends, patience, passion, and determination. Not everyone has the budget to run a huge website but since the advent of blogger and other amazing services all you need is the willingness to share your passions and you can turn a “simple blog” into a powerhouse of informative content that other networks recognize for its professionalism and a trusted website backed by a real person.

Interaction with Website Visitors

Social networking is all about interaction with others. Regardless if you belong to the same online community or not, interaction is important in any social networking site. That is why there exist a lot of ways to do so. Interaction in sites drives more people to the site because they do feel they can get more than just browse through it.

How is interaction made possible in any site?

  1. Blog comments – you publish a blog and visitors get to comment on whatever it is you write about. There is a portion on your page where comments are most welcome. You get to send them a reply, too.
  2. Message Board or Forum – a topic is set and visitors not only get to post their comments but to start a conversation as well. This helps get to know more about the topic and meet other people through the forum. You get to ask questions and gather information from those who know. Likewise, you get to help out others as well.
  3. Voting and Polls – you post a poll question that might attract your visitor’s attention and allow them to express their favorite content. Not only will this give you an idea of what they like but will also give your visitors a reason to keep coming back to check the results every now and then.
  4. Live Chat – this is interaction at is best. Your visitors have the chance to talk to you directly. This gives them the opportunity to ask you questions first hand and will give them the feeling of importance when you actually respond to them.
  5. Audio – this allows you to personally and verbally communicate your message to your visitors. Written and spoken language is different and may be interpreted diversely. Verbal communication helps you convey your message clearer.
  6. Video – this works as much as audio does but with a plus — with videos, your visitor gets to see you, too!
  7. Social Bookmarking – this refers to the “share this” buttons and links you see on your page. This allows visitors to tell others about your site easily. With just a click on the mouse, a satisfied and ecstatic visitor gets to share your page to his friends without a hassle. Not only that… your visitor can conveniently tell others why he likes whatever is in your page. This means that if friends will also like what he will see in your page, then he can click just the same and spread the good news.
  8. Contact Forms – you can also set aside a portion of your page for this. Contact forms allow your visitors to contact you directly with their opinions, questions, and other concerns.
  9. Wiki Format – this creates opportunities for your visitors to let them post their own content to your site. This might help you drive traffic, too, if your visitor’s content is a hot topic and attracts attention from others.
