Optimizing for Google and getting your site on Google’s coveted first page is not difficult with a little work and know how. If you’re new to Internet Marketing you probably realize that just launching a website that looks cool or even that has great content is by itself, not enough to get you on the first page of Google. You must employ sound SEO tactics to achieve the desired results.

What follows is the first post in my series on basic “onsite” SEO tips that will get you started. keep in mind, there is no magic bullet. There are however tried and tested methods which work and which have to tweaked occasionally as Google adapts and changes its algorithms. What works today may not work next week.

Step 1 – Keyword Research. Yeah, I know, it’s been beat to death but the truth is, not choosing the right keywords is the death nil to countless aspiring online marketers.

There are essentially two kinds of keywords. Research keywords and buying keywords.

If you are trying to sell a product and earn quick profits, you want to avoid “research” keywords and concentrate on keyword phrases that people who are looking to purchase a product or service are querying Google and the other search engines with.

Let’s use “dog training” as an example. The term “dog training” is extremely broad. A Google search for this term returns 39,000,000 results. However Google actually helps you in defining search terms. See the screen shot below.

When you type in the term “dog training” Google actually provides you with more specific search queries.

The more specific you are in your search term the greater your chances of (1) ranking high in Google and attracting buyers. For example, the search term “dog training collar reviews” has much fewer results: 477,000. And when put in quotations, the results are only 37,100.

By adding the term “REVIEW” to your keyword phrase you will generate interest from dog owners who are looking to purchase the best collar for their particular dog.

Squeeze Page Basics…

The sole purpose of your Landing Page, or for our discussion a “Squeeze Page” or “Name Squeeze Page” get the visitor’s name and email address.

It’s called as “squeeze page” because there is only one course of action the visitor can take on the page – join your list. An effective squeeze page should contain an attention grabbing headline, a high-impact e-cover graphic, a bulleted list of benefits the visitor/customer will receive from your offer (report, software or other product), and a call to action above your opt-in box. A professional looking and enticing landing page, will result in more sign-ups. And more sign-ups means more money! Creating A Basic Landing Page

Here are step-by-step instructions for creating a basic landing page. Step 1. Load up your HTML editor. If you don’t have one, here are some free resources:

Step 2. Insert a new table – about 600-700 pixels wide.


Step 3. Add your attention grabbing headline. Your headline should have the following characteristics:

• At the start and end of the heading it should have quotes (” “)
• Red in color.
• 18-24 pts in size.

Step 4. Add your bold sub-heading. Your sub-heading should have the following characteristics:

• Dark blue in color.
• 14 pts in size

Step 5. Add a short introduction (a paragraph or two). You must make the paragraph dramatic. Make the reader feel the pain or desire if they did or didn’t have this problem.


Step 6. Add 5-7 short, sharp, bold & salivating bullet points about what your reader will discover after they opt-in to see your sales letter/download your report.


Step 7. Add your call to action, i.e. “Act Now!”, “Sign-Up Here”, “Limited Time Offer!” Now your reader wants to know what to do next. This is where you tell them to fill in their first name and primary email address.


Step 8. Copy & Paste the opt-in form. Go to your autoresponder service/software and copy & paste the HTML code for the subscription box underneath your “call to action”. Don’t have an auto-responder service yet? I recommend: Aweber or GetResponse

Step 9. Upload your name squeeze page files to your web host server.


Step 10. Watch your opt-ins soar! I suggest you add tracking code to your Squeeze Pages, such as Google Analytics (free through Google). By tracking the results of your Squeeze Pages you can determine what works and what needs to be changed. This way you can optimize your landing pages and ultimately increase your landing page conversion rate.
