The keyword phrase “weight loss” is at the beginning of the of the buying cycle. It gets lots of searches and of course would be extremely difficult to rank for in the search engines.

As you drill down, look to answer the real question people searching for this term are asking. The real question is “how to lose weight”.

The answer to the question of “how to lose weight” has many solutions.

Again, you would not want to try to rank for “Diet Pills” as it is still too broad. Think about kinds of diet pills or other OTC supplements/vitamins/energy shakes, etc.

For example:

1. HydroxyCut (4,800,000 results) Discovery -Broad
2. Hydroxycut Hardcore (1,050,000 results) Narrower
3. Hydroxycut Hardcore Pro Series (371,000 results) Buyer

Hopefully you can see that there is a lot less competition for “Hydroxycut Hardcore Pro Series”, than for Hydroxycut.

Rank for “Hydroxycut Hardcore Pro Series” and you will step in front of those people searching for a specific answer to the “how to lose weight” search term.

Learn and understand “keyword psychology”.

Ask yourself, “why” do they want “X”? Focus on the people behind the search and you’ll pick winning buyer keywords more often than losers.
